Anxiety is an expected part of life and can at times motivate us to be successful. It is common to feel anxious when faced with a problem at work, before completing an exam, or before making an important life decision. However, often times, anxiety can feel debilitating and leads to someone avoiding a situation or experience altogether. ANXIETY is rOOTED

IN NEGATIVE THINKING

A level of anxiety can be adaptive for you. It can help you prepare for a project at work, study for an important exam, or motivate you to have a difficult conversation with someone in your life. These are examples of anxiety working in your favor. When anxiety becomes debilitating, this may be happening due to the frequency and intensity in which you are experiencing negative thoughts and feelings.

Negative thinking is automatic, meaning you will always experience them. However, when anxious thoughts go unchallenged, this can lead to further negative thinking that starts to impact your emotions and behaviors.

As YOUR Trusting,

NON-JUDGEMENTAL PSYCHOLOGIST,

I CAN HELP YOU:

  • Increase your understanding of negative thinking styles

  • Identify and challenge automatic, negative thinking styles

  • Slow down the hamster cage of stressful, running thoughts

  • Identify mindfulness imagery that can assist you in coping with anxiety

  • Reduce tension and increase your decision making

  • Improve social skills and increase your sense of success in relationships with others

This SOUNDS GOOD,

But I HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS First

  • Is Anxiety Treatable?

Anxiety is the most common mental health concern and is a treatable illness (National Institute of Mental Health), as an estimated 19.1% of U.S. adults experienced an anxiety disorder in the past year. It can be important to first rule out any other medical issues that may be impacting you, and Dr. Bewley will recommend that you first consult with a primary care physician if you have not already.

The utilization of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in treating anxiety. Psychotherapy can assist you in learning what triggers your reactions to specific fears, places, or situations. Moreover, these methods teach skills that are lifelong, and my ultimate goal is to help you take control over your life and symptoms. My goal is for you to not only feel better, but teach you skills that you can utilize if your stressors return at some point in the future.

  • Will Anxiety Completely Go Away?

As stated above, anxiety can be adaptable and help you be successful. Anxiety will not go away, but you can live your life with a healthy level of anxiety. Dr. Bewley will strive to help you manage your anxiety to a functional level and provide you concrete skills to utilize in managing your anxiety. Dr. Bewley will help you approach anxiety differently, which can lead you to feel more empowered to take on life's challenges.

  • Would I Still Benefit From Therapy Even If My Anxiety Is Not Significant?

No matter what level of anxiety you experience, therapy can be helpful for you to address your experience. Even if you manage your anxiety well, therapy can allow you a safe space to verbalize anxious thoughts or experiences that you may have never shared with anyone. Therapy can also assist you in gaining coping skills that you can utilize in the future.
