THE NEED FOR CONSULTATION
Welcome, and thank you for considering me as your consulting therapist. I genuinely value and enjoy connecting with other therapists to think together about our work as clinicians: the challenges, the questions, and the ongoing process of growth that comes with this profession.

In addition to my consultation work, a close friend and colleague and I co-created a professional podcast called 'The Consulting Psychologists: Beyond The Session.' On the podcast, we focus specifically on consultation-related topics in psychology. On the podcast, we explore real-world issues such as clinical decision-making, ethics, professional development, private practice realities, and sustaining a meaningful career in mental health. You are welcome to follow and listen on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
Consultation, for me, is about thoughtful dialogue, curiosity, and shared learning. I appreciate the opportunity to engage in that process with fellow professionals.

I offer professional consultation services for individuals working in the mental health field, including licensed clinicians, practice owners, and organizations. Consultation provides a collaborative and reflective space to reduce professional isolation, enhance clinical decision-making, and support meaningful professional growth. These services can be valuable without providing psychotherapy or clinical services.

My consultation work is grounded in expertise across psychological practice issues, ethics, and mental health business management and development, allowing me to offer skilled guidance across the many domains of mental health practice.
A strong evidence base supports the value of professional consultation for clinicians:

Reduces Professional Isolation & Burnout:
-
Research shows that clinicians who engage in regular peer consultation or professional support report lower levels of burnout and feelings of isolation. This is a significant issue in mental health work where emotional demands are high, as well as when many clinicians are isolated in their practices. Structured consultation fosters a sense of connection, shared experience, and professional accountability.

Enhances Clinical Judgment & Decision Making:
-
Consultation supports reflective practice, which research links to improved clinical reasoning, better treatment planning, and greater therapist self-awareness. Reflection with a skilled consultant helps clinicians integrate experience with evidence and theory, strengthening clinical outcomes.

Supports Ethical Practice & Reduces Risk:
-
Ethical decision-making improves when clinicians have access to consultation on complex or ambiguous cases. Empirical work suggests that discussion with a trusted colleague or consultant improves ethical awareness, reduces cognitive bias, and supports adherence to professional standards.

Promotes Lifelong Learning & Skill Development:
-
The field of psychotherapy continues to grow, and effective clinicians engage in ongoing learning throughout their careers. Consultation creates space for growth beyond training, encouraging clinicians to integrate new modalities and techniques into their work while remaining theoretically grounded.

Improves Client Care:
-
While consultation is not clinical treatment, research finds that clinicians who engage in reflective practice and supervision-like discussions demonstrate improved therapeutic competence and outcomes for clients.

BENEFITS OF CONSULTATION
Reducing Professional Isolation
-
Therapy can be rewarding and challenging. Consultation offers a collegial space to connect with another professional, normalize experience, and feel supported in the work.

Growth Through a Lifelong Learning Perspective
-
Consultation reflects a commitment to ongoing development. Whether you are early in practice or well established, structured professional dialogue supports continuous refinement of clinical thinking and professional identity.

Integrative Clinical Perspectives
-
My consultation approach draws from an integrative framework that includes Interpersonal Process Therapy (IPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Feminist therapy perspectives. Discussion may include how to thoughtfully weave evidence-based techniques across frameworks while honoring your own clinical voice and theoretical approach.

Improved Client Care
-
Reflective consultation supports ethical, thoughtful client care, particularly in complex scenarios where standard approaches may not fully fit the clinical picture.
Case Review & Clinical Dynamics
-
I provide structured space for case review and exploration of formulation, ethical considerations, boundary issues, and transference/countertransference dynamics that may impact treatment.
Professional Development & Practice Growth
-
Consultation extends beyond clinical content to support your professional goals, including private practice development, career transitions, and leadership or business challenges.

Feedback as a Clinical Skill
-
Learning how to give and receive constructive, clinically grounded feedback is a core consultation skill and linked in the literature to improved competence, communication, and professional resilience.
